Dreams, Goals, and God

In the same vein as my previous post “What Faith is Not For”, this is a guest post about religion, people, and God authored by a very wise dude.

So one thing I’d like to talk about today is.. a greater power, as in god, Buddha, or whatever. People are constantly asking why they feel the need to let our world go to crap, and if they were real they would of helped us already. People pray and wish for things, but never actually work for them. What would be the actual point in being handed these things we dream of? When you achieve a goal and/or dream, you feel something that isn’t really explainable.

Who know’s whatever is up or below us that we imagine may be real or fake. Not once were we told that someone was going to hand us happiness, hand us our dreams. We were never told that life was going to be perfect. Wishing on a time and star is cool and all, but if you’re wishing every chance you get and never working for it, there is no chance you’re ever going to get it. Stop sitting around wishing and bitching that nothing good ever comes your way, and stop complaining that whatever greater power (if there is or isn’t one) isn’t giving you what you want. The gods aren’t wearing a sign that reads: “Tell me what you want, I’ll hand it to you”.

Work and fight for what you want, and live the life you want. No one else will do that for you.

  1. Pray for peace. Pray for the people affected by Hurricane Sandy. Pray for your neighbour who’s been robbed.
No thanks. I’d rather join the Bloggers For Peace site, donate clothing, or be the neighbourhood watch. (The last one is easy – I’m already a nosy old fart! ;) )

I don[‘t think prayer ever hurts…but prayer without action doesn’t accomplish much…For me, sometimes prayer allows me to find out what I really want, what’s important to me…kind of a meditation deal, I suppose.

I agree. It’s like meditation but it should never replace actually going out there and acting on your prayers, so to speak. It’s not a replacement for practicality, logical though, common sense, or reality.

Hey, you know you’re not going to get any disagreement from me on this…I’ve never believed that prayer alone gets much done…I know there are a lot of folks who would disagree with that, but hey…we all have to find our own way…

        This is true. Merry Christmas!
